Natural Health Care
| Fundamental principles of natural health care include looking beyond your presenting complaint to understand the reason behind your symptoms. The treatment aims to provide the right environment to support your body’s innate healing processes. We go beyond treating disease aiming to prevent illness and optimise health and wellness. Western Herbal Medicine Herbs have been used as medicines in all societies for thousands of years. In modern medical herbalism the herbs are prescribed according to traditional principles aiming to correct imbalances and resolve patterns of dysfunction according to traditional knowledge, that is observation of the healing effects of herbal medicines over generations of use. |
|
| This knowledge is augmented by recent scientific investigation that helps us understand why the herbs work in the way they do. There is a growing body of clinical evidence to support traditional use of, and suggest new uses for, many herbal medicines. For further reading on this subject see Manocha R & Evans S, 2006, "Scientific versus traditional evidence", Journal of Complementary Medicine, vol. 5, no. 3 pp. 90-92, 95 at www.appco.com.au/JCM/online.html. |

| Naturopathy Modern naturopathic practice stems from the European nature cure tradition of the 19th century. The fundamental premise of naturopathy is the healing power of nature. Naturopaths believe our bodies have the wisdom and ability to heal themselves and naturopathic treatment supports this process. Naturopaths aim to identify and treat the cause of disease and to treat the whole person using natural remedies. These remedies might include clinical nutrition – dietary changes and nutritional supplements, herbal medicines, homoeopathics, flower essences, massage and lifestyle changes. |
|
| Nutrition and Lifestyle Nutrition is the foundation of good health. We assess your diet and offer recommendations for improvement. We also assess your lifestyle to identify and improve areas contributing to your health complaint. |

Flower Essences Flower essences are an important component of mind-body medicine, a growing area of health care. Bach Flowers are the oldest of the flower essence remedies, developed by Dr Edward Bach, an English physician, in the 1930s. Their therapeutic activity is via our body’s energetic fields, rather than physiological function, and they are used to address imbalances in emotional wellbeing. There are 38 remedies in the Bach Flower system of healing and these can be used singly or, more likely, in combination. |
| Many people use Rescue Remedy, a combination of 5 Bach Flowers, which help in the initial stages of shock or trauma. Bach Flowers are subtle but potentially powerful remedies that complement herbal medicines and nutritional supplements to enhance health and wellbeing. |
